Advisory Board news

The Horse and Pony Advisory Board met November 28, 2010. Many topics were discussed, among those were setting up the dates for the Tack Auction in February 2011 and the Speed/Pleasure Shows.

A call out for 4-H members to start judging practices will be held on December 2, 2010 Thursday at the Teen Library in Auburn. Practice starts at 7:00 pm.

We will start the new year out with Game Day on Sunday January 16, 2011 at 1:00 pm. More details will follow.

Election of Officers for the Advisory Board was held. Please give your support to the new officers for 2011.

4-H H/P Banquet date set


Dekalb County 4-H Horse & Pony Banquet
When: Sunday November 7, 2010 @ 1:00 pm
Where: Exhibit Hall at Dekalb County Fairgrounds
Please bring 2 LARGE dishes to SHARE as there are over 55 kids in the club that will bring parents & siblings.
The club will provide the meat, plates, and silverware.

This is to all who are interested in showing their nominated horse or pony at the state fair.  The deadline is July 1, 2010.  The cost is 15.00 per horse/pony.

More updates

Western Pleasure Clinic will be help at the Monday night mtg on May 10. 5:30-?
The other clinics will still be on May 16. Speed 12-2 and pleasure/halter/showmanship 2:30-4:30?

Midstates speed tryouts will be held sometime in June (has not yet been decided).

Updates for Mid States and Clinics

The Western Pleasure Clinic will be held on May 10, 2010 Monday @ 5:30pm.
The showmanship and horsemanship patterns will be available for Mid states Tryouts.

The Speed Clinic will be held on May 16, 2010 Sunday @ 12 to 2 pm.
English pleasure and Showmanship/halter-B. Richardson will start @ 2:30pm.

Mid States Pleasure tryouts will be held on May 24, 2010 Monday @ 5:30pm.

We will keep you updated on any future changes.

Attention 4-H Horse and Pony:

Huntington County 4-H and Chief LaFontaine Saddle Club would like to invite you to the first annual Indiana Youth Gaming Tournament. You will find a show bill and entry form attached. Please note that there will be a 20 team minimum and 40 team maximum to the event. If the minimum team number is not met, entry fees will be returned. Also, checks will not be cashed until the 20 team minimum is met. Cash prizes will also be awarded (see show bill). Horse Judging

We would like to invite you to come out to the Horse Judging Practice and see what it is all about. We are meeting on our regular meeting night at 5:45pm @ Exhibit Hall, Auburn, In. The opposite Monday nights we are meeting at the Teen Library (Third Place) located on Jackson Street in Auburn, In.
We have some Horse Judging Contests coming up in March and April 2010. Please come out and enjoy the fun!!

4-H newsletter

Just wanted to share with everyone the Extension Office mailed out the Feb-March 2010 newsletter out. If you have not received one, please let the leaders know. The 4-H enrollment form was included in this newsletter and we do not want anyone to miss the April 1st sign up date.

There is a lot of news from the Extension Office, please read the newsletter.

2010 Tack Auction

We had a very good turn out for the Tack Auction. In the picture above, Darrell Snyder just purchased two purses for his family!! Good job Darrell!!

2010 4-H Officers elected

New officers for 2010 were elected at the February 15, 2010 meeting.

Advisor Board President Bill Fry reminded everyone to bring donated items to the auction on Saturday Feb 20, 2010. Donated bake goods are also needed for the food menu.

Amy Hullinger showed the group on the proper fit of a riding helmet, proper boots with heel and no tread on bottom of boots. Amy also demonstrated how to tie up a horse and discussed the dress attire to wear to the outside meetings. No sandals or tennis shoes are permitted. No spaghetti strap tops or shorts should be worn.
Long pants, riding helmet, riding boots and 3/4 sleeve shirts will be permitted.

If 4-Hers or parents have questions, please contact any Advisory Board Member.

1st meeting- Great turnout!

We had a great turnout for the first meeting of Dekalb Horse/Pony Club.  Approximately 25 members attended and played board games and the munchies were provided. The adults held the advisory meeting.
New members elected to the board are Katy Stephenson, Brenda Seely, Kris Fry, Bill Fry and Desi Heffley.
